The Student Senate made history with its inaugural Federal Advocacy Academy, bringing more than 200 community college student leaders to Washington, D.C. for a multi-day experience focused on federal advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement. Throughout the Academy, students built community, strengthened their advocacy strategies, and aligned around key federal legislative priorities impacting community college students. Participants engaged directly with Members of Congress and congressional staff through numerous legislative visits on Capitol Hill, turning their lived experiences into meaningful policy conversations.
Guided by inspiring keynote speakers including Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernández, Dr. Eric Mayes of the Umoja Community Education Foundation, and Chancellor Sonya Christian, student advocates demonstrated the strength of community college leadership and the importance of student voices in national policy conversations. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this first Federal Advocacy Academy and look forward to continuing this work. See you next year!
